How do I register for an MTT small group departure?
One of the challenges of group tours is the uncertainty that arises when the minimum number of participants isn’t met, leaving guests disappointed and deposits—often 30% of the tour cost and non-refundable—at risk. This can create stress for both travelers and operators.
At MTT, we’ve developed a flexible approach to reduce these concerns. Instead of requiring immediate commitments, we first propose a tour idea, complete with a detailed itinerary and a suggested travel month. When interest is confirmed by a minimum of 4 to 6 participants, we proceed to finalize the tour details, including pricing and deposits.
This process does require some flexibility on the part of our guests. For instance, cancellation fees apply once deposits are paid (see more under Travel Insurance). Additionally, because MTT prioritizes unique, owner-operated accommodations with limited capacity over large, impersonal hotels, there may be changes to the final accommodation selections listed in the itinerary.
By adopting this approach, MTT ensures a smoother planning experience and delivers more personalized, intimate group travel experiences.

How many people are on a MTT small group departure?

The number of participants for each MTT Small Group Tour is determined by the logistics of the specific itinerary. Generally, tours are designed for 8 to 10 people, with pricing based on a minimum of 4 to 6 participants.
Tours can proceed with as few as 4 participants, provided all agree to the pricing for the smaller group. If additional participants join after the initial agreement, balance payments are adjusted to reflect the reduced cost for the larger group.
This flexible approach ensures that tours can run smoothly while accommodating a range of group sizes, providing a more tailored and inclusive travel experience.
Demographics

MTT Small Group Tours are open to everyone—couples, solo travelers, and occasionally, women-only groups. Single women travelers are especially welcome.
While single supplements are often necessary, MTT strives to minimize their impact as much as possible. However, we do not match solo travelers with roommates they haven’t met, ensuring your privacy and comfort during the tour.
Our groups are co-ed, with the average participant being 50+ years old, creating a mature and like-minded travel environment. Whether you’re traveling solo or with a partner, MTT offers a welcoming and enriching small group experience.
Do MTT small group tours focus on wildlife?
Yes, they do, which is what you might expect from itineraries created by the Director of a safari
company. But nor do they leave out the cultural highlights of a destination.

What do MTT Small Group Tours cost?
Travel Insurance
Travel costs vary depending on the destination. MTT Small Group Tours typically range from $350 per person per day in Sri Lanka, to $500 per person per day in South America, and $625 or more per person per day in India and many African destinations.
These daily rates generally cover land costs and may include some local flights. However, they do not cover international or regional airfare, visas, gratuities, or permits for specific activities, such as gorilla trekking.
MTT is committed to providing itineraries that offer excellent value while prioritizing your safety and comfort. Every effort is made to ensure a seamless and enriching travel experience without unnecessary compromises.
Travel insurance is mandatory for all MTT guided trips, and you must provide your policy details before your journey begins. Your coverage must include emergency medical evacuation to your home country.
Additionally, your policy should include trip cancellation insurance, which typically covers cancellations due to medical reasons. For broader protection, you may opt for a “Cancel For Any Reason” policy, though these are often more expensive.
Be sure to read the policy's small print carefully before purchasing. Some insurers require you to secure coverage within a short window—usually 14 days—after paying your deposit. Please note that cancellation fees generally apply from the time a deposit is made.
